Sponsorship Further Commitments
From the alpine scenery of the Crans-Montana golf course to the green carpet of the Zurich Film Festival – Credit Suisse supports many outstanding events in Switzerland's cultural and sports calendar.
The annual Credit Suisse Sports Awards are a highlight of the sporting calendar in Switzerland. Attended by celebrities from sports, politics, and business, the ceremony, which has been held each year since 1951, honors the most successful athletes in the country for their extraordinary achievements with the most prestigious award.
Award categories include Sportsman of the Year, Sportswoman of Year, Newcomer of the Year, Disabled Sportsman or Sportswoman of the Year, Trainer of the Year, and Team of the Year. The event has been held in the studios of Swiss TV channel SF since 2010 and is carried live by all Swiss broadcasters. Around a million viewers have tuned into the broadcast in recent years. Credit Suisse has been the official title sponsor of the event, which is organized jointly with Swiss Television, since 1997.
Omega European Masters in Crans-Montana
Credit Suisse has been committed to the Omega European Masters in Crans-Montana since 1984. At this PGA European Tour event, some of the world's top golf professionals compete for the title on the attractive "Seve Ballesteros" course at the Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club. The Omega European Masters is the only PGA European Tour event to be held in Switzerland, and is the oldest open tournament on the continent. Crans is also the competition venue with the highest altitude in Europe, and the Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club is considered one of the most beautiful alpine golf courses in the world. The rolling fairways, the magnificent mountain backdrop, and the fact that some of the world's best players tee off here each year, exert a powerful pull on golf fans.
Zurich Film Festival
The annual Zurich Film Festival held each fall has established itself as a major platform for films by up-and-coming directors. It now attracts around 90,500 movie buffs to Zurich's festival cinemas. Credit Suisse has been a sponsor of the Zurich Film Festival since its inception, and its main partner since 2007. The bank has also been a partner of Award Night since 2011 and of the Golden Icon Award since 2012. Furthermore, the bank supports the competitions "International Feature Film," "International Film Music," and, since 2015, "ZFF 72."
The Estival Jazz, held for the first time in 1979, has become one of the most important festivals in southern Switzerland. More than 300 notable artists and groups have appeared in Mendrisio at the Mario Bottas Piazzale alle Valle and at the Piazza della Riforma in Lugano. Thousands of fans of jazz and world music enjoy the open-air concerts which are free to the public thanks to support from sponsors and the public sector. Credit Suisse has sponsored this festival in the past and became a sponsor again in 2013.
Swiss Seniors Open
Since 1997, Credit Suisse has been supporting the Swiss Seniors Open in Bad Ragaz, one of the main events of the European Seniors Tour. This event, which until the end of 2014 was known as the Bad Ragaz Seniors Open, has established itself as the second most important Swiss golf tournament after Crans Montana. Since the tournament began, Bad Ragaz has been a favorite stop on the Seniors Tour, thanks to its unique atmosphere, challenging course, and excellent organization.
A highlight of Credit Suisse's commitment to equestrianism is the White Turf event in St. Moritz. These international horse races are generally held on the first three weekends in February, against the impressive backdrop of the mountains of the Upper Engadine. Visitors are particularly drawn to the spectacular skikjöring races, in which daring skiers are pulled by thoroughbred horses across the frozen surface of Lake St. Moritz. The overall winner is presented with the coveted Credit Suisse Skikjöring Trophy on the final Sunday of the competition, and earns the title "King of the Engadine." Since 2016, the daily winners and overall winner have been honored with a specially designed trophy. The "Credit Suisse King’s Cup" was created by the young Swiss artist duo "Aubry Broquard" for the 40th anniversary of the partnership between White Turf and Credit Suisse, and will furnish the daily winners and the newly-crowned king with a unique symbol of victory. Credit Suisse has been sponsoring White Turf since 1976.
