Claude Maurer, currently Head of Swiss Macro Analysis & Strategy at Credit Suisse, is to take over as Chief Economist Switzerland on June 1, 2021. He succeeds Oliver Adler, who will retire at the end of May after 35 years in the financial sector.

After completing his studies in Economics at the University of Zurich, Claude Maurer began his career as an economist at BAK Basel Economics, before joining Credit Suisse in 2006. As a member of the Economic Research team, he initially worked on industry analysis and later became responsible for gross domestic product forecasts. Appointed Head of the Swiss Macro Economics & Strategy unit at Credit Suisse in 2012, he currently leads a team of macroeconomists who prepare forecasts and analyses on the Swiss economy and monetary policy, including the quarterly publication "Monitor Switzerland". Before graduating from university, Claude Maurer, now aged 46, was a professional sportsman and represented Switzerland in the 49er sailing event at the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000.

Claude Maurer will assume his new role as Chief Economist Switzerland at Credit Suisse on June 1, 2021. He succeeds Oliver Adler, who is retiring at the end of May after 35 years in the financial sector – including 11 years at Credit Suisse. As Chief Economist for Credit Suisse in Switzerland, Oliver Adler was responsible, together with his team, for producing comprehensive, high-quality analysis of the Swiss and global economy as well as numerous special topics such as monetary policy and global debt. Alongside his various charitable commitments, Oliver Adler will continue to address developments in the global and Swiss economy as a new member of the Advisory Board of the Swiss Institute for Business Cycle Research (KOF) at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology.
