The problem
Citizens of the future should be able to make optimum use of – and be able to benefit from – the opportunities afforded by digital transformation. This requires new innovation in terms of technology for schools and learning environments and new approaches to education.
The solution
From 2020 to 2022, the Credit Suisse Foundation supported two organizations based at Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) in the Canton of Vaud, Switzerland. Both EPFL LEARN and the Swiss EdTech Collider work to promote pedagogical innovations in schools.
EPFL LEARN
How it works
The Open Educational Resources (OER) project allows teachers to voice their needs for STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) digital learning content to EPFL LEARN. EPFL students and other LEARN-affiliated labs then develop proposals in response. The idea with the most positive votes from the teachers wins the bid and CHF 10,000 toward the development of the relevant digital educational resources.
The impact
Open Educational Resources created in this way are then made available to the entire Swiss education community free of charge, benefitting educators and students alike.
About
The EPFL Center for Learning Sciences LEARN (EPFL LEARN) was founded by the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) and aims to foster educational innovation and to find solutions to the education-related challenges of the digital transformation of our society. The center contributes to the excellence of the Swiss education system.
Swiss EdTech Collider
How it works
This organization supports edtech startups that aim to transform the education system through the use of technologies. The Swiss EdTech Collider offers startups not only a forum to exchange ideas with like-minded enthusiasts, but the expertise of EPFL and its Innovation Park, and also access to schools, educational institutions, companies, edtech experts and investors, as well as other edtech networks.
The impact
This unique ecosystem contributes to the development of the education technology sector in Switzerland and benefits learners of all ages.
About
The Swiss EdTech Collider is a non-profit association founded in 2017. This edtech accelerator brings many innovative startups working in the area of educational technology together and offers their members ideal conditions and support in various forms.
