The product
We are a leader in cultivated meat. We grow high-quality, real, and safe steaks, directly from beef cells, in response to an increasing demand for healthier meat products and for protein solutions that do not involve killing animals. We see slaughter-free meat as an important step forward in addressing key challenges associated with meat production today, and believe it will be a large part of the solution in the long term. Aleph Farms has been co-founded with The Kitchen Hub, part of global food company and beverages Strauss, and Prof. Shulamit Levenberg and is using a 3D tissue engineering platform that Co-Founder Prof. Shulamit Levenberg originally developed for medical applications.

Market description
Aleph Farms is transforming the global animal protein market, valued today at USD 1 trillion and growing. Within five years we plan to change the way we eat meat, making our vision a reality. According to AT Kearney, meat consumption will increase to USD 1.8 trillion by 2040, while the production of conventional meat will decrease by 33%, opening the way for staggering growth in the cultivated meat market.

What are your fundraising plans in the next 12 to 24 months?
Following a successful USD 12 mn series A funding closed in April 2019, Aleph Farms expects to close a USD 30 mn+ Series B funding round at the end of 2020/early 2021.

What are your venture’s key achievements to date?

The difficulty lies in replicating the exact conditions as inside the cow, for cells to form the same tissue outside. More importantly, consumers do not want to compromise on taste – so we aim to create juicy, delicious steaks made of cow cells. The main remaining gaps to bridge are related to scaling up and the costs of commercial products. Aleph Farms expects to start building a pilot plant by 2021, for a limited launch at the beginning of 2023.
