JB Straubel

Co-Founder and Senior Advisor, Tesla Co-Founder and CEO, Redwood Materials

Mr. JB Straubel is a Senior Advisor and Co-Founder of Tesla, Inc., “the #1 Most Innovative Company in the World,” according to Forbes. Mr. Straubel was also the Chief Technical Officer of the company until mid 2019. As CTO, he managed the technical direction and engineering design of the Tesla products including Tesla battery technology, power electronics, Tesla motors, software, firmware and controls. He also managed many important Tesla’s initiatives: The Tesla Energy business providing grid storage; the worldwide Tesla Supercharger network; and the Tesla Gigafactory. Furthermore, he was also responsible for new technology evaluation, R & D, technical diligence review of key vendors, and building partner relationships.

In addition to his work at Tesla, Mr. Straubel has also served on the Board of Directors for Solar City, the leading US residential solar company, since their founding. He is also a lecturer at his alma mater, Stanford University, where he created and taught an engineering class and lab in the Engineering Department.

Mr. Straubel is also the Co-Founder and CEO of Redwood Materials, a circular economy startup focusing on advanced technology and process development for materials recycling, remanufacturing, and reuse.

He has had a lifelong passion for electric vehicles that had him rebuild an electric golf cart at the age of 14. While at University, he did the same with a Porsche 944 which held a world EV racing record.

Mr. Straubel is an inventor on over 30 patents covering most areas of Tesla’s core battery, motor and controls systems. He received a BS in Energy Systems Engineering and a MS in Energy Engineering, both from Stanford University.

Mr. Harper Reed is a technologist who predicts the future for a living. He spends his life traveling around the world showing people the possibilities of tech and sharing his experiences to propel the greater good, all while raising the level of fun in the room.

Mr. Reed knows his incredible luck has led him to achieve many wonderful things. At PayPal, his roles as Head of Commerce and as an Entrepreneur-in-Residence allowed him to guide teams into the thrilling future of e-commerce. The technology he developed as Co-Founder at startup Modest Inc. had initially garnered the attention of PayPal, which led them to acquire Modest only a few years after launch.

Mr. Reed also believes the talent of a great bunch of humans can transform an organization like nothing else and he uses that belief to strengthen, deploy, and inspire every team he works with. Previously, Mr. Reed was CTO of the Obama 2012 campaign, where he was the first to bring the mentality and connective capabilities of tech to the political stage. He was also the CTO of Threadless.com, where he pioneered crowdsourcing and grew the company from a 12 - person startup to a multi-million dollar enterprise. Mr. Reed is an MIT Media Lab Director’s Fellow, sits on the advisory boards for IIT Computer Science and the Royal United Service Institute, and is on the Cornell College Board of Trustees.

Professor Dr. Lino Guzzella

Professor Dr. Lino Guzzella was President of ETH Zurich from January 2015 – December 2018. From mid-2012 until the end of 2014, he was Rector of ETH Zurich. He has been full professor of Thermotronics since 1999. 

Prof. Guzzella studied mechanical engineering at ETH Zurich where he earned his doctoral degree in 1986. Prior to working in academia, he held several positions in industry, working in R&D with Sulzer, as well as with Hilti. In 1993, ETH Zurich appointed him as an Assistant Professor. From 2003 to 2004, he was the Honda Visiting Professor at Ohio State University. His research focused on novel approaches in system dynamics and control of energy conversion systems, for which he received a number of awards. He is a member of the Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences (SATW) as well as a member of the board of directors of several multinational companies; furthermore, he is a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and of the International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC).

Prior to assuming his current role, Didier was Head of Solution Partners and a member of the Management Committee of the Swiss Universal Bank. In his current capacity, he is responsible for the corporate segments, SME, Large Swiss Corporates and Commodity Trade Finance, as well as all relevant corporate products. He also oversees the direct investment part of the Swiss Entrepreneurs Fund and the 100% Credit Suisse (Switzerland) Ltd. subsidiary Credit Suisse Entrepreneur Capital Ltd.

Angus Muirhead

Head Global Robotics Equity Fund Credit Suisse Asset Management (Schweiz) AG

Angus Muirhead is the head of the Thematic Equity Team at Credit Suisse Asset Management and is the lead portfolio manager for the CS (Lux) Robotics Equity Fund.

Angus has been investing professionally for over 20 years, both in the public and private equity markets. Following a three-month internship in 1996, he started his  career in 1997 as a buy-side equity analyst covering the technology and healthcare sectors in Japan. In 2007 he became a portfolio manager and has since then managed a number of technology and healthcare related global thematic funds. He joined the Thematic Equity Team at Credit Suisse in 2016 as a senior portfolio manager for the Robotics Fund. 

Angus has a Bachelor’s degree in Modern Japanese and Business Studies from Durham University and has been a CFA Charter holder since 2001. Angus worked in London and Tokyo before arriving in Zurich in 2007.

Philipp Wehle is a member of the Executive Board of Credit Suisse Group AG and CEO of International Wealth Management (IWM), which comprises the Private Banking businesses in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America – as well as global Asset Management.

Philipp joined Credit Suisse in 2005. He was Head of IWM Finance between October 2015 and July 2019. Prior to that, he held senior management roles in finance and strategy in our Swiss business and International Private Banking. In 2011 and 2012, he was based in Singapore, where he headed the Private Banking Asia Pacific Finance team.

Philipp graduated from the University of Bonn, Germany, with a Master’s degree in Economics and subsequently worked as a consultant and project manager with a focus on financial services.
