Lead Economist for China, World Bank
John Litwack has been the World Bank’s Lead Economist for China since October 2015. He has also served as Lead Economist for Russia, Kazakhstan and Nigeria. Before joining the World Bank in 2002, Dr. Litwack headed the Russia Desk in the Economics Department of the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) from 1995 to 2002. Prior to that, he was an Assistant Professor in the Economics Department at Stanford University from 1988-1995.
Dr. Litwack received his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Pennsylvania in 1998. He has written a number of publications on economic theory and topics of economic transition. His work has also focused on the economies of Ukraine, Belarus, Bulgaria, Serbia and Montenegro.
