Jimmy Zhang is a Venture Partner at Lilly Asian Ventures (LAV). He was a Vice President (global level) in Johnson & Johnson (J&J) Innovation, where he led the transactional and partnership management activities and strategy in Asia Pacific in pharmaceuticals, medical devices & diagnostics and consumer products, as well as fund relationship and partnership in the region. Before joining J&J, Dr. Zhang was the Managing Director of MSD Early Investments Greater China at Merck & Co., and a member of the Merck Research Lab (China) senior leadership team.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Zhang was a Senior Vice President at Synergenics, LLC, a professional service and venture firm founded and led by Dr. Bill Rutter, one of the pioneers of the biotech industry. Dr. Zhang was responsible for the investment, business development and operations of Synergenics and some of its portfolio companies, along with their businesses in China.
Dr. Zhang received his B.S. degree in biochemistry from Nanjing University, a Ph.D. degree in biomedical sciences from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, and an MBA degree from MIT Sloan School of Management. He has published articles in top-tier academic journals, such as Cell, Nature, Neuron and The Journal of Biological Chemistry (JBC), and holds multiple patents.
