Chief Executive Officer, Central Peroleum
Richard Cottee is a veteran of the oil and gas industry having started his commercial career with Santos Ltd in 1982. He was instrumental in the development of the CSG industry having taken QGC from an early stage explorer, with a market capitalisation of approximately $30 million, to a major gas supplier, which was sold to the BG Group for $5.7 billion six years later. He has extensive experience in the energy sector generally, having been a CEO of a Queensland electricity generator (CS Energy). In his career he has had a role in the development of the industry in Queensland, South Australia and now the Northern Territory.
Richard joined Central Petroleum Limited in June 2012 as Managing Director. Central operates the Mereenie oil and gas field, Palm Valley gas field and Dingo gas field, which presently produces all of the onshore gas in the Northern Territory.
Most recently, at Central Petroleum, Richard played a key role in promoting the opportunity for a Northern Gas Pipeline to connect the Northern Territory to the east-coast gas demand centres both to overcome the impending shortage of gas in Australia’s manufacturing heartland and as an incentive to attract new investment in gas exploration and development. Throughout his career, Richard has worked to develop competitive markets to drive the best economic results for all stakeholders
