John Ellice-Flint, has 40 years of experience across the global petroleum industry include eight years as Managing Director of leading Australian energy group, Santos Limited, and 26 years at Unocal Corporation, a USA headquartered international energy company.
Following his international career with Unocal, where he served in a variety of senior executive roles within strategic planning, exploration and technology functions, he joined Santos Limited as Managing Director, guiding the company through a major growth period which culminated in the recognition and of the potential of Coal Seam Gas development through the Gladstone LNG export project in Queensland.
As Santos Managing Director between 2000 and 2008, the ASX-listed company’s market capitalisation increased from AUD 3 billion to AUD 11 billion. This period was instrumental in transforming the Australian company from a domestic market-focused producer to an entity which now has significant production outside its legacy assets and is focussed on delivering energy to the international market.
Mr Ellice-Flint’s 26 years of experience with Unocal included working in 14 countries. Early roles were as a very successful oil and gas finder, based in various parts of Asia, Europe and the US and including a period between 1994 and 1996 as Vice President of Unocal’s sizable Indonesian business which included the energy group’s contribution to the world’s largest LNG plant at Bontang.
He was Vice President of Corporate Strategic Planning and Economics between 1996 and 1997 and was based in the US as Senior Vice President Global Exploration and Technology for three years prior to being appointed head of Santos Ltd in 2000.
John is also on the board of Infrastructure Australia.
