Binny Bansal is the Co-Founder of Flipkart, India’s largest ecommerce group. Mr. Bansal (along with cofounder Sachin), started Flipkart as an online bookstore in 2007 and virtually laid the foundation of the ecommerce market in India, which now ranks as the fastest growing in the world. Until Nov 2018, he served as the Group CEO and Chairman of Flipkart. In May 2018, Walmart Inc acquired majority stake in Flipkart at USD 20 Billion.
Mr. Bansal took over the role as the CEO of Flipkart in early 2016 where he is responsible for driving the strategic development, overall direction and business management for the Group. In addition to its flagship commerce platform, Flipkart Group entities include India’s top fashion retailers Myntra and Jabong, payments company PhonePe and India’s largest supply chain organization, Ekart.
Till early 2016, Mr. Bansal led the company as the Chief Operating Officer, where he lead all aspects of business that come into play from the time the customer places an order till the time of delivery across divisions like, supplychain, logistics and technology.
Mr. Bansal along with his cofounder Sachin featured in the prestigious Time 100 most influential people list in 2016 and the Straits Times of Singapore had chosen them for the “2016 Asian of the Year”. He has also featured in India Today power list, CNBC's Next List and Fortune India 40 Under 40, in 2014. He is an angel investor in several startups.
Born and raised in Chandigarh, Mr. Bansal went on to get a degree in Computer Engineering from IIT Delhi. He had a brief stint at Amazon before taking the entrepreneurial plunge with Flipkart. A big fan of Yuval Noah Harari as well as Stieg Larsson’s ‘Millennium’ series, he is also passionate about soccer and NBA. An active sportsman, he used to captain his school basketball team and member of soccer team.
