Patrick Cao is the President of Tokopedia, Indonesia’s largest online marketplace, a position he has held since October 2016.
Previously, Mr. Cao was a member of the investment team at Formation 8, based in Singapore. In this role, he focused on diversified technology investments in Asia. Prior to Formation 8, Mr. Cao was an Executive Director at UBS Investment Bank in Indonesia, specializing in M&A and capital markets advisory in the TMT, consumer and industrials sectors. While at UBS, Mr. Cao also held positions in the M&A team in New York and Global Industrials Group in Hong Kong. Before that, he was a Vice President at Moelis & Company in Hong Kong, where he was engaged in restructuring and corporate finance advisory.
Mr. Cao’s technology-related transaction experience, other than at Tokopedia, includes IPO, financing and M&A advisory for Tower Bersama. He was also a strategic advisor to one of Indonesia’s largest integrated smartphone producers and mobile network carriers, as well as to a number of Indonesia’s conglomerates on their O2O roll-out strategy. In addition, he has worked as a joint venture advisor to China’s largest e-commerce players with Indonesian consumer conglomerates.
Mr. Cao received a B.S. in Business Administration from Carnegie Mellon University. He is currently doing his MBA program at Tsinghua University, which is expected to be completed in 2020.
