Senior Advisor, Global Infrastructure Partners; former Chairman, President and CEO, GE Capital Aviation Services


Norman C.T. Liu is former Chairman of GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS), a world leader in commercial aviation financing. He retired from GE at the end of 2016. He is currently a Senior Advisor to Global Infrastructure Partners, a leading private equity investor in infrastructure, and a Senior Advisor to ICBC Leasing, the top leasing firm in China. He is also an Adjunct Professor at University College Dublin and was a 2017 Advanced Leadership Fellow at Harvard.

Mr. Liu graduated from Yale in 1979 and received an MBA from Harvard in 1982. His 35-year career centered on real asset finance (infrastructure, property and large ticket equipment) and M&A. He spent five years in investment banking, then 30 years with GE Capital. Roles in his first eight years at GE included EVP Transportation & Industrial Funding, VP of M&A at GE Capital, and Managing Director and a member of the Management Committee at Kidder, Peabody. He then served for 22 years at GECAS, as EVP-Commercial for 14 years and as Chairman, President and CEO for eight years. During his tenure at GECAS, net income grew from about $100MM in 1995 to $1.4B in 2016 on nearly $50B of assets. The firm in 2016 owned, managed or financed about 10% of the world fleet and served airline customers in over 75 countries from 25 offices.
