N.K. Singh

Former Member of Parliament; Chairman, FRBM Committee


N.K. SINGH, is a former Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha, & Chairman, Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management Review Committee (FRBM). He is a Member, of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Mr. Singh is a well-known economist, politician and former eminent bureaucrat. He was a member of the Upper House of Parliament (from 2008 to 2014) and served on several Parliamentary Standing Committees including Public Accounts Committee, Committee on Foreign Affairs and Human Resource Development.   Mr. Singh has handled important portfolios in India’s economic reforms strategy and also held public offices including India's Expenditure and Revenue Secretary, Secretary to the Prime Minister of India as well as a Member of the National Planning Commission.   

He has authored three Books entitled, “Politics of Change”, “Not by Reason Alone” and “The New Bihar: Rekindling Governance and Development”. He has been a reputed columnist in leading Indian dailies,   Hindustan Times, Hindustan, The Indian Express, The Hindu and  MINT.  

Mr. Singh has a wide range of national and international experience, having interacted closely with multilateral organizations like World Bank, IMF, ADB, and OECD.  He is also a Member on the Board of ICRIER, International Management Institute, Observer Research Foundation, ASPEN and Hindustan Times. Member of the Governing Board of the Nalanda University and Chairperson of the Endowments Committee, Nalanda University.  Member of the International High Speed Rail Assocaition, Japan, Global Advisory Board of the Tokai Tokyo Financial Holdings, Japan,  World Economic Forum, Geneva and also Foundation Board Member of Young Global Leaders, World Economic Forum. Mr. Singh has lectured at eminent universities like Columbia, Yale, Stanford and London School of Economics. 

Mr. Singh was awarded the “Order of Rising Sun – Gold and Silver“, the high civilian award by the Emperor of Japan in 2016.
