Loi Martin Bakani, CMG

Governor, Bank of Papua New Guinea


Mr. Loi Martin Bakani was appointed Governor and Chairman of the Bank of Papua New Guinea (Central Bank) Board in December 2009 for a term of 7 years, which ended in December 2016. He was reappointed by the Government in December 2016 for another term.  Prior to becoming Governor, Mr. Bakani was Deputy Governor for Policy and Regulation.

Mr. Bakani was awarded Commander of St Michael and St George (CMG) by the Queen for services to financial services sector in Papua New Guinea. He is also Alternate Director to IMF, Director for SEACEN Centre, and AFL PNG.

Mr. Bakani holds a Master's Degree in Economics from the University of Wollongong Australia, and a Bachelor of Economics Degree from the University of PNG.
