Ian Alan Tarutia, OBE

CEO, National Superannuation Fund (NASFUND)


Ian Tarutia is the Chief Executive Officer of National Superannuation Fund (NASFUND), the largest private sector superannuation fund in Papua New Guinea. He has been in this role since November 2011, but has been employed since December 1987.

NASFUND looks after the retirement savings of 538,000 private sector workers and invests these funds onshore and abroad on behalf of members, to build up their retirement nest egg for life after active employment.

The Fund has assets of K 4.3 billion or US$ 1.3 billion and has averaged growth of 15. 5% over the last 10 years. As a consequence NASFUND is an integral part of the Financial Sector in Papua New Guinea and an active contributor to the soci–economic development of the country.

In other roles, Mr. Tarutia is Vice President of the Papua New Guinea Chamber of Commerce, President of the Papua New Guinea Institute of Directors and President of the Association of Superannuation Funds of Papua New Guinea. He sits or chairs a number of Boards, across the financial, aviation, manufacturing, environment conservation and sporting sectors in Papua New Guinea and is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Mr. Tarutia is a Harvard Business School Alumni, holds a MBA and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Economics from the University of Papua New Guinea and also holds a Diploma in Financial Markets from the Securities Institute of Australia.

In 2002 he was awarded an MBE from Queen Elizabeth II for services to the Superannuation Industry in PNG. In June 2016, he was further recognised with an award of OBE from Queen Elizabeth II for services to NASFUND and 2015 Pacific Games hosted in Papua New Guinea in July 2015.
