Founder and CEO, BYJU’S
Byju Raveendran is the Founder and CEO of BYJU’S, one of the world’s most valuable education-tech companies, which is reinventing how students learn, through its learning app.
Born to teacher parents in Azhikode, Kerala, Mr. Raveendran was a self-learner from a young age and used to develop different learning methods to understand concepts better on his own. A sports enthusiast, Mr. Raveendran believes that children can learn a lot more outside the classrooms by playing multiple games.
An entrepreneur by chance and a teacher by choice, he started BYJU’S with the vision to help students fall in love with learning and change the way India learns.
Mr. Raveendran started the classes in 2018, which became a household brand due to his unique teaching style and focus on learning. With the aim of influencing the Indian education system from its roots, Mr. Raveendran harnessed the power of technology to reach out to the K-12 segment of students across the country. In 2009, Mr. Raveendran undertook his first experiment with technology by launching online video-based learning for Common Admission Test (CAT) through a very small aperture terminal (VSAT).
The real breakthrough, however, was in 2015 with the launch of BYJU’S – The Learning App, which has seen a phenomenal engagement, with 30 million downloads. It has reached over 1,700 cities and towns in the country so far. The learning app makes use of original content, watch-and-learn videos, rich animations and interactive simulations to make learning contextual and visual. The app also adapts to the unique learning style of each student, inviting them to explore different concepts.
