Jun Ma

Founder and President, Institute of Finance and Sustainability

Jun Ma is President of the Institute of Finance and Sustainability and Adjunct Professor at Peking University’s National Development School.

Dr. Ma is also Chairman of the Green Finance Committee, China Society for Finance and Banking.

Between 2018 and 2020, Dr. Ma was a member of the Monetary Committee of the People’s Bank of China (PBOC), and Director of the Center for Finance and Development at Tsinghua University. Before joining the PBOC in 2014, he spent 13 years at Deutsche Bank, where he was Chief Economist/Investment Strategist for Greater China. During 1992-2000, he worked as a senior economist and economist at the World Bank and the International Monetory Fund. From 1988-1990, he was a research fellow at the Development Research Center of China's State Council.

Dr. Ma is a renowned economist and a leading advocate and practitioner of green and sustainable finance. At the PBOC, he led many policy research initiatives on macro-economic forecasting, monetary policy transmission, financial risk analysis, as well as the drafting of China’s green finance policy framework. During his investment banking career, he was ranked the #1 Asia economist by Institutional Investor for many years in a row.

Dr. Ma received his Ph.D. degree in Economics from Georgetown University in 1994, and his Master's degree in Management Science from Fudan University in 1988.
