New realities, new horizons
March 2023 | Sydney, Melbourne & Brisbane
2022 was a year of exceptional turbulence. Inflation soared, and war broke out in Europe. The US Federal Reserve, the RBA and other major central banks increased interest rates aggressively. This reversal of more than a decade of easy monetary policy has reset expectations for global growth. While a strong US dollar has been challenging for emerging markets it has been a positive for Australian commodity exporters. At the same time, China’s economy, which had been hampered by Covid lock downs, appears to be gaining momentum.
Listed markets sold off aggressively in 2022, but have started the new year strongly. Private equity and credit markets have proven resilient. In particular, businesses exposed to progress in the climate change fight, have and will continue to present attractive investment opportunities. Technologies related to clean energy, clean infrastructure, and climate resilience are set to benefit from an unprecedented $369 billion of public spending and tax credits in the U.S due to the Inflation Reduction Act.
While many countries face potential of recession in 2023, a turning point will come. When will global macro concerns ease? Investors have been defensively positioned to weather the storm, but is it time to change course? How can investors take advantage of early stage opportunities in the ongoing journey to net zero?
Credit Suisse’s Australia Market Outlook Seminar aims to help investors navigate this uncharted territory – and capture the opportunities emerging in 2023 for Australian investors. Speakers include John Woods, Chief Investment Officer Asia Pacific, Sven-Christian Kindt, Head Private Equity Portfolio Solutions and Andrew McAuley, Chief Investment Officer Australia.
