FAQ 3D Secure (MasterCard® SecureCodeTM)

In order to use 3D Secure, your Credit Suisse MasterCard must first be activated in the system. The activation process starts automatically the first time you pay with your Credit Suisse MasterCard on a 3D Secure participating retailer’s web site. First you will be asked to input part of Credit Suisse (Luxembourg) S.A. account number (in IBAN format) from which your Credit Suisse MasterCard payments are debited and your date of birth.
Then you will be asked to set your “3D Secure personal message” (which will be displayed during each future online payments process to reassure you that the web site is indeed an official 3D Secure payment site) followed by a “3D Secure password”. No information will be divulged to the retailer.

You will be asked to input digits 13 to 16 of Credit Suisse (Luxembourg) S.A. account number. The other digits will be concealed. For example, if your account number is: LU12 3456 7891 0123 4567, you will be asked for digits 13 to 16, in other words “0123” in the following format: LUxx xxxx xxxx [ ] xxx.

No, the 3D Secure service is completely free of charge

If you do not activate your Credit Suisse MasterCard for 3D Secure, you will not be able to pay online with your Credit Suisse MasterCard for purchases from retailers that support 3D Secure.

Once the 3D Secure service has been activated, you will be asked to enter your 3D Secure password. If your 3D Secure password is correct, you confirm that you are the rightful cardholder and your payment is completed.

The logo MasterCard®SecureCodeTMdisplayed on a retailer’s web site tell you that you must use the 3D Secure service for your online payments. If an online retailer does not support 3D Secure, the payment process runs as normal without entering a password or displaying your 3D Secure personal message.

No, certain operations can fail because:

  • Some foreign traders accept only cards issued in their own country. Some traders accept 3D
  • Secure cards only above a certain amount.

Please contact the merchant directly if you notice anything unusual on its site.

For shop purchases (therefore not on the Internet), this does not apply. You will continue to pay by keying in your PIN.

This message that you define will be displayed for you on all pages relating to payments made on a 3D Secure retailer’s web site. You choose your 3D Secure personal message when you define your 3D Secure password for the first time. For example: “I live in New York”.

This means that the web site authentication could not be validated. Do NOT continue the transaction.

Click on the “Forgotten your password?” link that you can find on the screen. You will have to reactivate your Credit Suisse MasterCard for the 3D Secure service and specify a new 3D Secure password.

You will need to re-activate your Credit Suisse MasterCard for the 3D Secure service and specify a new 3D Secure password. Needless to say, you will still be able to use your Credit Suisse MasterCard in shops and at ATMs.

If your Credit Suisse MasterCard is replaced as a result of loss or theft, you will need to activate your new Credit Suisse MasterCard for 3D Secure.

Following the normal expiry of your Credit Suisse MasterCard, the 3D Secure settings will automatically be transferred across to the new Credit Suisse MasterCard so you will not have to re-register for 3D Secure. The 3D Secure personal message and the 3D Secure password will remain the same.
