The global effects of Asia’s aging population
Credit Suisse Research Institute Study
Asia’s major economies are aging rapidly. Slower population growth is typically linked to rising prosperity, but in many countries aging is now running ahead of income. Will a shrinking workforce hold back the region, or will progress in education and health lead to higher productivity?
A new study, published by the Credit Suisse Research Institute (CSRI), reveals the extent of the demographic challenge for 10 Asian economies. Drawn from a survey of 6,000 people and bolstered by comprehensive secondary research, the report considers the implications of aging for Asia and the global economy. Which countries are facing the biggest demographic shift? Will Asia continue to supply the world with goods and capital? And which industries will benefit from an aging population?
