Tribute to the Stripes
When the Uetlihof complex that first opened in 1979 was enlarged in the early 1990s, Markus Weggenmann designed a site-specific work for the stairwell, called "Tribute to the Stripes", 1995. As the new Uetlihof 2 complex opened in the spring of 2012, Markus Weggenmann was able to reinstall his "Tribute to the Stripes" in the connecting hall of that building. In the old constellation (1995), the 192 canvases were incorporated into the heavily linear system of window moldings and railings of a stairwell that could be used vertically as well as horizontally. The presentation lends them greater autonomy so that they are less constrained by their surroundings.
