Jeroen Geel – Installation with Shadowing

Jeroen Geel has created a multi-part installation for the customer area at Credit Suisse in Kriens. The wall art Shadowing, 2015, formally incorporates the batten width of the ceiling covering, continues this, and works it into the room. In the context of a bank, the title is certainly intended to be tongue in cheek. In truth, it reveals far more about Geel's interest in perception and the visual process, which form recurring themes in his art. The gradual shadowing is intensified by the actual lighting conditions in the room, in which daylight seeps in from the right. The diagonal patterns of the plinths are repeated, forming a picture within a picture on the wall, throwing the second and third dimensions into confusion for the viewer standing in front of the installation.
