Credit Suisse makes senior appointments in Private Banking Asia Pacific Research

Credit Suisse today announced senior appointments in its Private Banking Asia Pacific Research team. Mrs Chew Soon Gek has joined Credit Suisse as Head of Strategy and Economic Research Asia Pacific for Private Banking based in Singapore. In her new role, Mrs. Chew is responsible for Credit Suisse’s cross asset class portfolio strategy and macroeconomic research in Asia Pacific. Mrs. Chew reports to Ms. Fan Cheuk Wan, Head of Research Asia Pacific for Private Banking.

Ms. Fan commented on Mrs. Chew’s appointment, “We are delighted to welcome Soon Gek to our team. She brings with her 24 years’ valuable investment experience in strategy, portfolio management and investment advisory. Soon Gek will enhance our ability to service our Private Banking clients and support our relationship managers in delivering outstanding investment solutions. The appointment of Soon Gek will strengthen our thought leadership capabilities and allow us to meet the new challenges of the rapidly changing business environment in this high-growth region.“

Following the completion of Credit Suisse’s legal merger with Clariden Leu on April 2, 2012, Mrs. Chew has joined Credit Suisse from Clariden Leu where she was the Head of Portfolio Management and Investment Strategy Asia from 2009. Prior to that, she was Chief Investment Officer of Deutsche Bank Private Wealth Management Asia Pacific and Chief Investment Officer of ING Asia Private Bank. Before joining the private banking industry, Mrs. Chew held senior roles in institutional fund management at DBS Asset Management and Government of Singapore Investment Corporation where she was a fund manager and senior economist. She has won industry awards for outstanding risk-adjusted fixed income fund management as a portfolio manager and her expertise extends to emerging market bonds, Asian equities and currencies. She has also led successful investment teams who have won industry recognition for discretionary portfolio performance.

Mrs. Chew is a Chartered Financial Analyst with a Bachelor of Social Science (Honours) in Economics from the National University of Singapore. She obtained her Master in Business Administration (Finance) from the City University Business School (CASS) in London.

Credit Suisse also announced that Kum Soek Ching has rejoined Credit Suisse as Head of Southeast Asia Equity Research, based in Singapore reporting to Mrs. Chew. Ms. Kum leads the Southeast Asia equity research unit covering the ASEAN markets. Ms. Kum has 18 years of fund management, research and advisory experience in the Asia Pacific and Australasia markets. She was previously the Head of Southeast Asia Equity Research at Credit Suisse Private Banking Asia Pacific from 2005 to mid-2011. Prior to joining the private banking industry, Ms. Kum was a senior fund manager managing institutional, mutual and pension funds at OCBC Asset Management, Morley Fund Management and Daiwa Capital. She is a Chartered Financial Analyst with a Bachelor of Business in Financial Analysis (Honours) from the Nanyang Technological University.
