Publications and Subscriptions “Entrepreneur” Magazine: Fall 2013
The topic of company succession is of concern to Swiss SMEs: Over the next five years, almost 1 in four companies will be transferred to a successor.
A survey conducted by Credit Suisse and the University of St.Gallen shows that an internal family solution was found in only around 40% of cases. In cases of succession to a family member, many – and to some extent, very different – interests need to be taken into account. In the cover story of Entrepreneur Magazine, Simone Gasser from window manufacturer GAWO Gasser and Matthias Rüegg from Rüegg Cheminée reported on their personal experiences as successors in family firms. But the Credit Suisse survey also showed that the share of management buy-ins (sales to external partners) appeared surprisingly high, at approximately 40%.
