Outgoing Payments SEPA – (Single Euro Payments Area)

SEPA – (Single Euro Payments Area)

Thanks to the SEPA standard, you as a Credit Suisse client can reap the advantages of standardized European payment transactions in euros.

SEPA is an initiative of the European Payments Council (EPC) to harmonize and standardize European payments in euros. To date, the SEPA Credit Transfer and SEPA Direct Debit procedures have been developed and launched. The SEPA procedures are based on standardized data formats as agreed by the European banks. The key aspect of the system is the pan-European use of the International Bank Account Number (IBAN). In addition to harmonized formats, pan-European processing centers have been established for automated processing of bulk payment transactions in euros.

SEPA Standards

Central standards for harmonized processing of individual procedures in Europe are:

  • EUR transactions within EU/EEA member countries and in Switzerland and Monaco.
  • Use of IBAN (International Bank Account Number) of the beneficiary.
  • Uniform message standard using XML (ISO20022).
  • Uniform business rules to process payments.

Depending on the procedure, there are also individual additional standards to be met. These are set forth on the SEPA product pages listed below.
