A Big Plus
-
Just like the Viva Kids gang, you can sell second-hand things like toys at the flea market to earn money. If they are in good condition, then other people can use them. They are willing to pay for it. Have you ever sold some of your old things?
-
There are a lot of tasks that grown-ups can use help with. You can earn a little extra by doing small chores. How about washing someone's car or doing yard work? Ask your parents (or neighbors) if you can help.
-
You can also earn money by making things yourself. Crafting, baking, painting, sewing, weaving, cooking, crocheting... What are you particularly good at? You can sell your homemade artwork from your own vendor's tray...

Did You Know...
There are products that are not made with expensive materials but still have a high value – such as very old cars called classic cars, or a picture by a famous artist. There are people who would really like to have these kinds of products and are prepared to pay lots of money for them. The high price for things like this is called a collector's price.
Why Does a Mobile Phone Only Cost One Franc?
The phone may only cost one franc in the beginning, but people have to buy a rather expensive subscription in order to use it. You commit to paying a monthly fee for a certain period of time. That means you pay for the phone a little bit at a time. All in all, this usually costs more than you would normally pay for the mobile phone.

Laura
Laura is a curious nine-year-old girl and the leader of the Viva Kids. It's important to her that the Viva Kids always stick together. That's why she's made medals for everyone in the Viva Kids gang – so everyone knows they're part of the gang.
Also, Laura is always coming up with great ideas. She wants to know everything. For example, she recently found a mysterious little red book. She wanted to know exactly what it was all about. And of course, the Viva Kids found out the secret.
Even when something goes wrong, Laura doesn't get discouraged, because she loves an adventure.
Your spending plan
It is important to know how much money you get and spend every month, so that you can keep track of your money. Your spending plan will tell you:
1. how much money you have every month,
2. what you're spending money on, and
3. whether you have money left over that you can save.
Print the plan out and enter the money you get and the money you spend. It's a great idea to fill out the plan together with your parents.
