Interview with Gabi Longe
Mergers & Acquisitions
New York, USA
What is your role?
Gabi Longe: As a Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) banker I provide advisory services to a broad spectrum of corporations and financial sponsors on mergers and acquisitions, sales processes, carve-outs and divestitures, leveraged buy-outs and assessment of strategic alternatives. Specifically, I work with clients at every step of a transaction. This includes negotiating, conducting valuation analyses and preparing marketing materials.
What surprised you most about the job?
Gabi Longe: Firstly, the intensity and fast pace – time is crucial and things happen extremely quickly. Secondly, I was surprised by the access to key decision makers at some of the most sophisticated companies and institutions both domestically and internationally. Finally, I have been surprised by the profound impact that M&A can have on the trajectory of a company or in the lives of owners and founders as we help monetize their assets.
What is the biggest risk you have taken in your career?
Gabi Longe: Leaving my job as a Certified Public Accountant to go to Business School so I could transition to Investment Banking. My career had been successful but I wanted to move to a bigger, more forward-looking platform. Business School is a very competitive environment and there were no guarantees that I would receive an offer from a prestigious firm, like Credit Suisse. But I was confident it was a risk worth taking.
