Watch highlights of the Global Supertrends Forum 2020

Our annual Global Supertrends Forum provides an occasion for thinking deeply about the world around us. This year we decided to focus on the Supertrend, “Anxious Societies”.

Faced with the coronavirus pandemic, governments and companies are having to respond to key concerns of citizens around the world, including inequality, cybersecurity and data protection, rapidly changing work environments, food supply and security, and the meshing of technology and biology.

At the event, attendees heard from respected global thought leaders on what is going on with our lives and what is going to happen to us in the future.

  • The future of stock returns

    Jonathan Golub, Chief US Equity Strategist at Credit Suisse, argues that the future of stock returns in the US will ultimately be driven by demographic changes. A declining US labour force and the impact of fewer children are shrinking US and global GDP growth. This has put downward pressure on US interest rates, which markets expect will remain low for the foreseeable future.

  • The threats of today and tomorrow

    Admiral Michael Rogers, Former Director of National Security Agency & Former Commander of US Cyber Command, sheds light on the myriad challenges that cyber threats present to our democracies and everyday lives. It is a reality that we need to recognize and develop defensive strategies that are consistent with our social and personal values.

  • Technology leaders in a post-pandemic world

    COVID-19 has accelerated the uptake of robotics and AI across the workforce but it has not been universal. Dr. Poppy Crum, Chief Scientist at Dolby Laboratories and an Adjunct Professor at Stanford University, and Angus Muirhead, Head of Thematic Equities, Robotic Equity Fund at Credit Suisse, discuss the latest tech trends and how COVID-19 is accelerating the adoption and development of some, while slowing down those in other industries.

  • The future of food – capitalism with a conscience

    Agriculture is the least digitized industry in the world but also is the world's largest employer. One of the many challenges facing the world is not only how to feed a global population predicted to hit 11 billion by the end of this century, but to do it in a sustainable way that is friendly to the environment. Emma Weston, CEO and Co-Founder of AgriDigital, and James Gifford, Head of Impact Advisory at Credit Suisse, discuss the solutions to rapidly adapt to a changing climate.
