Meet Aakankhsha

Title: Assistant Vice President
Business Area: Group Finance
Location: Pune, India
Joined Credit Suisse: November 2012

Before I joined Credit Suisse, I studied engineering at Nagpur University and then worked in IT consulting. As a consultant, I would do an assignment, and then move on to the next assignment. I wanted to feel that I was part of something bigger and understand what drives the business. I was curious. I decided I needed to move to an organization where I could really work for the business and feel that I was making an impact.

Today, I use my tech knowledge to help improve technology-related processes so that Credit Suisse employees can do their jobs faster and better. My team provides application support for some key financial applications of the bank. Our clients are groups within the company that have certain technology pain points they want to solve. Our goals are simplification, standardization and optimization.

I feel empowered to make decisions. When you are a consultant, you have a set requirement to finish your job and move on. When your client is your employer, you have a real commitment to a project’s long term success. I really enjoy this. The more accountable you are, the greater your sense of achievement.

Most of the people who report to me are new to the corporate world, and I personally think it is important to nurture them in their careers. I always try to give them an understanding of what we are doing, why we are doing it and how we are contributing to the bigger picture. If you join our team and have a really great idea, you will get the support you need.

Working at Credit Suisse has given me career goals that I would have never considered before. I don’t feel like I have to restrict myself to my current role. Credit Suisse offers great exposure and people here appreciate talent, and there is a great emphasis on career progression. If you are up for taking new or additional responsibility you receive the opportunity and desired support.

My days are spent working with my team and stakeholders to analyze problems, come up with plans and implement the solutions. Recently, for example, we were working on a solution that provides a more secure environment for employees moving from one application to another within the bank's network.

Outside of work, music is one thing I am really passionate about. I would like to say I can sing, but mostly I just listen. I like all genres of music, from American to traditional Hindi. I also like to travel. I was recently on the highest motorable pass in the world, Khardung La (18,380 feet) in the Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir State. It was thrilling and memorable.
