Mission Statement

The Credit Suisse commitment to the visual arts in Switzerland takes two forms: while Cultural Sponsorship supports the exhibition activities of leading art institutions in the country, the Art Unit is building up a collection of works by contemporary Swiss as well as international artists. There are two guiding principles in the Art Collection’s strategy:

Encouraging Talent

On behalf of Credit Suisse’s Art Committee – composed of members of the bank’s Executive Board and other representatives – the Art Unit acquires new works that incorporate a broad range of artistic forms. It is the inner coherence and quality of an artwork – a combination of convincing themes and treatment, artistic authenticity and a compelling aesthetic force – that is decisive in its being selected for the Credit Suisse Collection. On-site art projects that are either commissioned directly or emerge as the winners of competitions form another component of this long-term collection strategy.

All acquisitions are part of our commitment to encouraging talent and to build an inclusive environment with works by artists representing a range of diverse backgrounds. To put this into practice, Credit Suisse starts acquiring works from artists at an early stage in their career, with a goal to accompany and to support them over the long term, and as their oeuvre evolves. We also carefully consider the geographical balance of the collection and the subject matter of the artwork in our pursuit of diversity.

Representing Corporate Culture

The art displayed throughout the Credit Suisse premises promote an inclusive work environment where everybody can equally engage. For clients and employees alike, the artworks are thought-provoking and provide a stimulus for untested ideas.

The Credit Suisse Collection represents a corporate culture that advocates diversity. It seeks to reflect the many backgrounds of the society in which we operate and brought to life when we meet.

So, most importantly, the Credit Suisse Collection makes an integral part of our workplace, in client areas as well as in staff back offices. It enacts our commitment to art in our own, global business context.
