Santitarn Sathirathai

Santitarn Sathirathai is Group Chief Economist at Sea Limited. He is also a member of senior management at the leading global consumer internet company. Sea’s businesses include Shopee, the largest pan-regional e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia and Taiwan; Garena, a leading global online games developer and publisher; and SeaMoney, a leading digital payments and financial services provider in Southeast Asia.

At Sea, Dr. Sathirathai heads the company’s Research and Public Policy Unit and leads Sea’s engagement with policymakers and thought leaders around the region. He was the first representative from Southeast Asia invited to join the World Economic Forum’s Community of Chief Economists tasked to reimagine the global economic system post Covid-19. He is also a visiting lecturer at Chulalongkorn University. A passionate advocate for the power of technology to drive transformation and inclusion, he published his first book Futuration in Thailand in 2019. Futuration became an instant bestseller.

Prior to joining Sea, Dr. Sathirathai was Head of Emerging Asia Economics Research at Credit Suisse, covering 10 economies. He was the only economist in Asia to have won the prestigious Best Economic Forecaster award by Consensus Economics for three consecutive years. He has also worked in Thailand's Ministry of Finance and in the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, as well as the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation.

Dr. Sathirathai holds a Doctorate degree in Public Policy and a Master’s degree in Public Administration in International Development from Harvard University, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and a Master’s degree from the London School of Economics.
