Minister of State-Owned Enterprises, Indonesia; Supervisory Board member, Indonesia Investment Authority
Erick Thohir is Indonesia’s Minister of State-owned Enterprises and Supervisory Board member of the Indonesia Investment Authority (INA).
Managing business portfolios that drive one-third of the nation’s economy, Minister Thohir drives the transformation of Indonesia’s state-owned enterprises by restructuring 27 industry clusters to 12, reducing 142 enterprises and 800 subsidiaries to 41 holding entities, and increasing millennial and female representation to 5% and 15%, respectively, at the Board of Commissioners, Board of Directors and BoD-1 levels.
Through INA, he strives to attract foreign investment to improve the investment climate and the development of state assets, and support national development – especially national-priority projects.
Minister Thohir also serves as Vice Chairman IV and Executive Director at the National Covid-19 Response and Economic Recovery Committee (KPCPEN), as well as Chairman of Indonesian Syariah Economic Society (MES). He is currently an International Olympic Committee (IOC) member and an International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Central Board member.
Prior to joining the public sector, he was best known as a business mogul with passion for the media industry and sports. He held executive roles and ownership in numerous media and sports enterprises, from Mahaka Group to Inter Milan. He also held leadership roles in various national sports organizations, including the Indonesian Olympic Committee, and Indonesia Asian Games 2018 Organizing Committee (INASGOC).
Minister Thohir holds an Associate of Arts degree in Communications from Glendale College, California; a Bachelor of Arts degree in Advertising from American College, California; and a Master of Business Administration degree in Advertising from National University, California.
