Credit Suisse Announces Greater China Country Management Appointments

Credit Suisse announced today that Neil Harvey (聶瀚文先生) has been appointed CEO, Hong Kong and Co-CEO, Greater China. He will share his responsibilities as Co-CEO, Greater China with Liping Zhang (張利平先生), who will maintain his position as Vice Chairman, Global Investment Banking Department. These appointments reflect the strategic importance of the Greater China region as one of the Bank’s key growth opportunities worldwide.

Eric Varvel, CEO Asia Pacific for Credit Suisse, said: “In Liping and Neil, we have two highly effective and experienced professionals with deep expertise in Greater China and an excellent track record of growing businesses. Together, they will leverage the full strength of the Bank in Greater China across our Private Banking & Wealth Management and Investment Banking divisions and ensure an integrated and coordinated approach in supporting our clients.”

Messrs Zhang and Harvey will also have responsibility for overseeing and maintaining all local regulatory relationships in Greater China. As CEO for Hong Kong, Mr. Harvey will also be responsible for overseeing the business and people strategy.

Mr Harvey has been involved in investment banking and asset management for 27 years and has significant knowledge and understanding of Emerging Markets and Asia Pacific having worked in Asia Pacific for 15 years. His 13-year career at Credit Suisse has spanned many roles and regions with his most recent role as Head of Asia Pacific and Global Emerging Markets for the Asset Management division. He has also been Head of the Investment Banking division and Fixed Income division for Asia (excluding Japan). Mr. Harvey was a founder of Credit Suisse's Global Emerging Markets Fixed Income business. He has held various other senior positions at the firm responsible for business in the Middle East, Africa, Turkey and Latin America.

Mr. Zhang, who joined Credit Suisse in 2004, has over 30 years of financial industry, corporate management and government sector experience. He commenced his career at China's Ministry of Foreign Trade & Economic Cooperation in Beijing in the early 1980s and held a number of senior positions at other organizations including CEO of Imagi International Holdings Limited, Managing Director of Pacific Concord Holdings Limited, Managing Director and Geographic Head - Greater China Region of Dresdner Banking Group and Director of Merrill Lynch Investment Banking Division.
