Environmental Management

In 1997, Credit Suisse obtained ISO 14001 certification for its environmental management system. It helps us to conserve resources and reduce greenhouse gas emissions while saving costs.

The environmental management system governs the responsibilities, procedures and rules for operational measures relating to the implementation of our sustainability policy. In 1997, Credit Suisse became the world’s first bank to obtain ISO 14001 certification for its environmental management system and we have been developing it continuously ever since. As a result, our certification today extends to all our operations worldwide. Our goal is to constantly improve our environmental performance through clearly-formulated processes and responsibilities. Environmental coordinators in the four business regions help to ensure that environmental management is firmly established throughout the company. Our primary goal is to constantly improve our environmental performance by ensuring that the relevant processes and responsibilities are clearly defined. Environmental coordinators in our four business regions help to ensure that environmental management forms an integral part of our activities throughout the bank.

Our environmental management system is reviewed annually by the external certification company SGS. In 2009, we obtained our recertification without any corrective action requests. Our Group-wide certification is valid until 2012. The 2010 monitoring audit in Switzerland and the US was also concluded successfully without any corrective actions.
