Environment

In its Sustainability Policy, Credit Suisse pledges to contribute to sustainable development by acting in an environmentally responsible manner.

Credit Suisse regards its commitment as a duty to protect the environment and to reduce the environmental impacts of its business activities. At the same time, it uses environmental issues as an opportunity to create added value for its clients, shareholders and business partners.

Products with environmental benefits, the reduction of costs through the economical use of resources and improved risk management through the consideration of ecological risks are a few examples of the ways in which environmental responsibility can contribute directly to long-term business success.

Cost savings as a result of ecological efficiency The economical use of resources can help to reduce energy, material and waste disposal costs.
Improved risk management The active consideration of environmental risks enables an appropriate corporate lending policy to be implemented, thus reducing credit losses.
Market opportunities through product innovation The consideration of environmental criteria when developing new products leads to innovation, thus enabling companies to secure a competitive advantage. Examples include environmental investment products and financing solutions for innovative projects.

Environmental Management System: the key to improved environmental performance

In 1997, Credit Suisse became the first bank worldwide to introduce an environmental management system that is certified under ISO 14001 with the aim of managing all environment-related issues on a centralized basis. This system enables Credit Suisse to monitor environmental factors and to continuously adapt its efforts in line with new challenges.

Two of Credit Suisse's main areas of focus in the area of environmental management are the optimization of resource consumption and the consideration of environmental aspects in its products and services. In addition, it pays particular attention to the growing issue of climate change.
