Marcel Kreis appointed the new Head of Private Banking Asia Pacific at Credit Suisse
Singapore, August 1, 2006 Credit Suisse announced today that Marcel Kreis has been appointed the Head of Private Banking Asia Pacific, effective February 1, 2007. In his new role, he will be responsible for the further development and coordination of Credit Suisse's private banking activities in the entire region, as well as for promoting cooperation in the context of the integrated bank. He will be based in Singapore and will report to Walter Berchtold, CEO of Private Banking and Paul Calello, CEO, Credit Suisse, Asia Pacific.
Mr. Kreis is joining Credit Suisse from UBS, where he was the Head of UBS Global Wealth Management in South East Asia and Pacific, including Australia and onshore Japan, from 2000. In this role, he succeeded in significantly expanding the private banking business and in substantially increasing its volume of assets under management. He has worked in the field of private banking in Asia since 1983 - first at Citibank and then at Merrill Lynch, before joining Swiss Bank Corporation (later UBS) in 1990, where he held various management positions. He has been based in Singapore since 1990, having previously worked in Hong Kong, Melbourne and Sydney.
Mr. Berchtold stated: "We are delighted to welcome Marcel to Credit Suisse. He has more than 20 years of experience in providing private banking services to very wealthy Asian clients. Asia is, and will remain, a key market for Credit Suisse. One of our primary objectives is to systematically exploit the presence of Investment Banking and Asset Management in order to expand our private banking activities in a targeted manner within Asia."
Mr. Calello commented: "Under Marcel's leadership, Credit Suisse will be able to cement its position as one of the leading Private Banks in Asia Pacific, providing world-class, discerning products and services to our select client base. He will also be key to our strategy of cross-divisional cooperation between our Private Banking, Investment Banking and Asset Management activities in the region and will be a key component in our goal to become the world's most successful integrated global bank."
Fidelis Goetz, Head of Private Banking North East Asia, and Didier von Daeniken, Head of Private Banking South East Asia, will report to Mr. Kreis. They have jointly managed the private banking business in the region on an ad interim basis since February of this year.
