Credit Suisse's Renewables franchise is the industry leader globally; since 2007, the Renewable Practice has been involved in over 70 transactions with an aggregate value in excess of $30 billion, making it the No. 1 renewable energy franchise on Wall Street by both volume and number of deals.  More specifically, Credit Suisse also maintains the top market share in the wind and solar energy sectors, with 2x the share of wallet of our nearest competitor in solar.

Credit Suisse’s Renewables practice has been recognized by New Energy Finance as the Top Lead Manager for Clean Energy Public Market deals in 2007 and 2008.  Since its inception, the Renewable Practice has won several other prestigious awards from leading the most pioneering deals in the space. These deals have included:

  • Advisor to Babcock & Brown in the sale of Bluewater Wind to NRG Energy, the first U.S. offshore M&A transaction (2009)
  • Advisor to GCL on the $710 million investment by China Investment Corp. (2009)
  • Advisor to MEMC on the acquisition of Sun Edison for $340 million (2009)
  • Advisor to Solel on the sale to Siemens for $418 million (2009)
  • Advisor to Centrica on the sale of 50% of an offshore and onshore operating portfolio to TCW (2009)
  • Advisor to Valero Energy in its $477 million acquisitions of ethanol assets from VeraSun Energy (2009)
  • Placement agent on the $317 million of subordinate and convertible debt for Invenergy (2008)
  • Joint Bookrunner in the $500 million IPO of GT Solar (2008)
  • Joint bookrunner on the $5.9 billion IPO of Iberdrola Renovables (2008)
  • $2.6 billion duo-stage sale of Airtricity Holdings and Airtricity North America to Scottish and Southern and E.On, respectively, for which Credit Suisse won Environmental Finance Renewable Energy Transaction of the Year (2007, 2008)
  • Lead Bookrunner on the $1.2 billion US IPO of Cosan, the leading Brazilian sugar / ethanol producer (2005)
  • Advisor to FPL on over $1.1 billion in financings of FPL’s wind portfolios in 2003, 2005 and 2008.  The first $500 million financing in 2003 won Project Finance International’s 2003 Deal of the Year honors by bringing wind power to the capital markets and educating institutional investors about a new project and technology class that has become a big part of project finance in the US.
