FX Client Risk Advisory

The Global Foreign Exchange (GFX) Client Risk Advisory Group provides consultative services to Credit Suisse clients on the identification, measurement and management of recurring but potentially un-managed or passively managed foreign exchange risk.

Such risks can arise through a range of factors, both operational and strategic in nature, for instance:

• Passive FX flows: Reducing costs and delivering price transparency and clarity for passively executed FX transactions which arise as a by-product of core activities (for example currency share class hedging or cash management FX from buying / selling international equities).
• FX strategy – "to hedge or not to hedge?": Investigating how currency risk could be managed most efficiently within an international investment portfolio.  Following increased concerns over the high market volatility in recent years, we work with clients to develop their hedging approaches.
• Corporate Risks: We specialise in working with our global clients at the group level to understand where their strategic FX risks arise and aim to help them solve the FX related economic, counterparty credit, accounting, regulatory and tax challenges they face.
• Fund of Funds: Trading FX can present particular hurdles to overcome – posting cash for margining is not always possible and obtaining financing secured on illiquid assets not straightforward.  In conjunction with our Fund Linked Products Group, we can offer clients an integrated solution both for financing and trading FX.

In summary, the GFX Client Risk Advisory Group uses a comprehensive and analytical approach to identify areas where there is a business case for change and to assist clients in its implementation. This is done through a combination of;
(i) quantitative portfolio analysis;
(ii) operational reviews;
(iii) suggested controls / performance benchmarks; and
(iv) training programmes to explore and deliver risk management solutions meeting each client's requirements
