Business School

The Business School's offering helps to systematically promote talent and ensure the enduring success of our business.

By offering our employees attractive opportunities for training and development, we can ensure the lasting success of our organization. The bank's own Business School is responsible for internal development, training employees and present and future managers to become experienced and responsible partners for our clients. It thus makes an important contribution to Credit Suisse's strategy for growth.

Quality Assurance in Client Advisory Services

Programs for client-facing employees in all three divisions – Private Banking, Investment Banking and Asset Management – play a key role in this respect. It is precisely in difficult times that the provision of targeted advice to clients becomes even more challenging. Examples of the systematic training and development opportunities for our client advisors include:

  • "Global Train to RM", a modular training and development program for client advisors that offers an ideal mix of theory and practice. It also takes into account the various degrees of client advisory experience – from career changers to experienced client advisors.
  • "Winning the Business" is the name of an Investment Banking program that promotes "best practice" expertise in client management and negotiating tactics. This global program, implemented on a local basis, has thus far been launched in the EMEA and APAC regions.
  • "Simply the Best" is a global learning initiative for the Distribution area of the Asset Management divison.
  • "Perspectives on Products" stands for a series of in-depth, cross-divisional training modules, which focus on furthering employees financial know-how.

Learning From Colleagues

Sharing knowledge within the organization is very important to the Business School. In Switzerland, some 1000 lecturers from different business areas pass on their know-how and experience to colleagues by way of internal programs. In Europa, Asia-Pacific and America too, such speaker networks are already up and running or on the verge of being launched.

There are also various Centers of Competence (CoCs) supporting the Business School in knowledge transfer and networking.

  • The CoC for Mentoring is a global resource for internal mentoring programs. This involves not only disseminating professional knowledge and our corporate culture, but also sharing personal career experiences.
  • Other CoCs are concerned with coaching, inducting new staff, and cross-cultural collaboration.

Deploying New Technologies

The Business School introduced numerous online innovations in 2008. These included:

  • The conversion of part of the existing training courses into interactive online modules, enabling staff to learn, irrespective of time or place.
  • The launch of new learning channels such as the Expert Insights. Each month, Credit Suisse experts talk about current topics and trends in short video clips.

New Courses for Young Talents

The Business School also systematically promotes the development of young talent and future managers by offering new courses of study.

  • In 2008 the first graduates of the Bachelor of Banking program were awarded their degrees. Credit Suisse established this part-time course of study in 2004 in collaboration with the Zurich University of Applied Sciences.
  • A Global MBA Program was also offered for the first time that year: 24 MBA graduates from all parts of the world completed the program requirements, preparing them for the challenges of the markets.
  • In December 2008 the first 22 participants earned their Professional Diploma in Global Finance. This program is aimed at selected highly-qualified junior employees from the Asia Pacific region, and is conducted in cooperation with the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Preparing for Succession

We endeavor to provide our employees with continuous opportunities for advancement and to support their career development, in all four regions. Requirements for the highest-level positions and promoting from within are governed by global guidelines, and these form the basis for the Managing Director Evaluation Committee's selection of suitable candidates. The candidates under consideration will have especially proved themselves on account of their performance, their impact on the business, and the exemplary way in which they embody Credit Suisse values. These candidates are then discussed according to a globally consistent process, and put forward for promotion.
